Why ICWIM matters in the UAE

The UAE Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) operates a qualifications-led licensing regime for people performing licensed functions in the securities and investment industry. CISI qualifications, including ICWIM, appear on the SCA's list of accepted examinations, and many UAE professionals sit ICWIM together with the CISI United Arab Emirates Financial Rules and Regulations paper as part of their licensing path. In practice, if you want to work in wealth management, investment advice, or private banking with a UAE bank or investment firm, this qualification is one of the standard requirements employers and the regulator look for.

Licensing requirements depend on your exact role and can change. Confirm the current requirement for your specific function with the SCA, CISI, or your employer's compliance team before relying on it.

Who is it for?

  • Wealth and investment advisers, and private banking professionals
  • Insurance and financial planning consultants moving into investment advice
  • Relationship managers and product specialists in banks
  • New entrants who want a strong, internationally recognised foundation in wealth management
  • Experienced professionals who need the qualification for an SCA-licensed function

What the syllabus covers

The exam draws from eight chapters. Every practice question on Bourse Prep is mapped to one of them.

  3. Asset Classes and Financial Markets: cash, bonds, equities, property, derivatives, foreign exchange, and digital assets.
  4. Collective Investments: investment funds, fund structures, charges, and other investment vehicles.
  5. Economics and Investment Analysis: macroeconomics, inflation, monetary and fiscal policy, and fundamental and technical analysis.

  8. Lifetime Financial Provision: retirement planning, protection, insurance, and lifetime financial needs.

What comes after ICWIM?

Passing ICWIM can make you eligible for CISI Associate-level membership and forms a base for higher-level CISI qualifications in wealth and investment management, such as the Investment Advice Diploma and advanced wealth management certificates. Which route makes sense depends on your role and market; the CISI qualification pathway sets out the options.
